For nearly 50 years, I traveled life having my beliefs of a God above, but did I really? I thought I did. I always believed in God, but I didn’t praise him. Can we claim belief if we do not praise God? After all, if we truly believe, shouldn’t we be praising him for what he has given to us and is offering us?
Psalms 40:3
He put a new song in my mouth,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear the Lord
and put their trust in him.
I started my truth-seeking quest, like this. I read articles, reading gods words in the bible, I watched documentaries, and I spoke with other believers. Even though I thought I was learning, was I? What was I learning? Aside from my daily bible reading, I was just merely reading words that people had written, documentaries that people had created, and articles that people had written. In the end, I was learning what people wanted me to learn. The real reason I hadn’t been filled with truth yet is because I was still “learning” and not yet accepting and believing.
There came a time, when I had to cast aside my doubts. I had to realize what faith really was. I had to allow myself to just believe and ask God for truth. Instead of waiting on another person to tell me what to learn, I asked God to just fill me with his truth, and boy did he ever. It coursed through me like that fullness you feel when you’re listening to the most emotional song. He filled me with my own song. It was a new song for me, and a song only from me to God. I began to sing praise and sing it loudly to him.
Ephesians 5:19-20
19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The Apostle Paul gave praise to God, even while near death. He didn’t blame God for his situation, but instead, praised God for the strength to endure. Paul’s song of praise allowed him to weather unimaginable sufferings and is an example of how a song of the spirit, between you and God, can be all the spiritual connection a person needs to make it through any suffering. Sing your song of praise upon the lord and allow his spirit to fill you. Allow God to give you all you need, to endure as Paul did.
On the day I began to sing my song, I gave up my old ways. When I gave up on learning solely from people. I put my faith in God, and I asked for him to show me all the truth I needed. I asked God to forgive me of my sins, and I asked him for his Holy Spirit. My soul was reborn, and I was washed of all doubt. I hear it now. As surely as I hear my own voice, I hear his silent words in my heart.
Psalm 96:1-2
1 Sing to the Lord a new song;
sing to the Lord, all the earth.
2 Sing to the Lord, praise his name;
proclaim his salvation day after day.
My song lays on my tongue. Its ready to be sung, and God is always ready to hear it. It begins like this: Praise be to Jesus. Glory be to my savior.
