In 1999 a motion picture named The Matrix, added a new metaphor to our language. A character was given a choice. Take a red pill and be awakened to the raw truth that he had been ignoring. Or, take a blue pill and to just continue to ignore it and be none the wiser.
What if you were in the same position? What if you were given a choice of knowing the truth about life and it could change your entire perception? Or, what if you could simply walk away back to your old life and continue to live as you have your whole life? Would you learn a truth, if it meant losing what you know, or would you choose to stay in the same sheltered knowledge that you’ve always known?
To Be Alive or To Live
Two very different options that each one of us have. One option requires effort, faith, and a desire to accept change under the guise of truth. The other option requires no effort. It’s as easy as turning around, closing your eyes, or refusing to hear. It’s comfortable and its familiar because it’s the life we already know.
What if you were to think of Faith as a red pill? Believing in something, even in the absence of initial proof. The pill itself is your act of taking that first step. It’s the understanding of the life you’ve been so comfortable with, might just be a façade. A lie nurtured by a being that benefits by keeping you comfortable and “blue pilled.” The red pill is a choice to ask for and accept the spirit of God. Or as Jesus called it, a “Comforter”
John 14:16-17 (KJV) 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
The red pill, or Faith, is the choice to have your eyes opened to truth. The choice to accept the spirit of God as your Comforter, your Helper, and an Advocate of God that you can call upon in times of need. It’s the choice to “Be Alive.”
Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Choosing to stay Blue Pilled
Life is familiar and we can live it with a relative certainty of what the future holds. It’s comfortable to us, and we can live without fear of consequence. When life is over, that’s it. The life we lived is completed, we gathered nothing, and the results of our actions will soon fade away. It’s spiritually unfulfilling.
King Solomon wrote:
Proverbs 28 Those who trust in themselves are fools, but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe.
Choosing to just “live” rather than to truly “be alive” is a devaluation of oneself. Accepting to live the lie of the “blue pill” is a willful act of believing that we are just mishaps of nature, that have the fortune of being able to laugh and cry. Life isn’t important if we are just “living.” What if this is actually a lie?
Job 28:13 No mortal comprehends its worth; it cannot be found in the land of the living.
The greatest things almost always require the most effort.
It is a shame that people that are really just existing from day to day think they are living. Those sitting in their penthouse, eating, drinking, partying, saying ain’t this the life are not truly living. All that is important is the here and now and do not even think about forever. God has a plan for their lives and blessings abound for those who love the Lord. And that is the truth. Jesus said “I am the Way, the Truth, and Life. There is an absolute truth and it is found is God’s will and in His word
Amen, Brad. Believing the truth takes effort. Living the illusion requires no effort, and it’s a lie perpetuated by evil intent.
