6 Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” 9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. 10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

*Commentary* Throughout history, Christianity is filled with endless debates over the second coming of Christ, the restoration of the Kingdom, or “The end of times.” People read into prophecies, and attempt to decipher when and how, and who is who. Mark 13:32, Jesus said “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” It’s safe to say, we will know, when God wants us to know, and not an instant before. In the meantime, Jesus tells us to become more like him and to bring others into the flock. 2 Peter 3:14 says So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.

  1. What does Jesus mean when he tells them to “witness?”
  2. Do we have duties assigned by Jesus? If so, are there things we can do to help fulfill those duties?

to me the answer to these questions are simple and that is, do it. Witness by living a life that is pleasing to God. Actions speak louder than words. But we must also tell others of the good news. And that news is God loves you and has made a way for all to spend eternity with Him. Jesus paid the price all we have to do is repent and believe in the fact that what He say He will do He will do
